Have the student stand with legs together, back straight, and twirling arm extended parallel with the floor. Using a cloth measuring tape, measure from the base of the neck to the tip of the middle finger – the result is your suggested baton length. If the number falls between lengths, size up.
Note: Some majorette groups prefer the method of measuring from the under-arm to the end of the middle finger. Consult your group leader before using this method.
Superior Cheer strongly suggests taking student measurements for the most accurate sizing. In situations where you're unable to take measurements, please refer to the guidelines below:
|1 to 4 years 18 inches||5 to 7 years 20 inches|
|8 to 10 years 22 inches||11 to 12 years 24 inches|
|13 to 14 years 26 inches||15+ years 28 inches|
If the twirler is tall for their age, add 1 to 2 inches. If they are small for their age, subtract 1 to 2 inches. These suggested lengths are based on the average student. These guidelines are not a guarantee that the baton will be at the preferred length of the twirler.
